When poetry and image speak the same language.
The long human and artistic relationship with Alda Merini holds a central place in Giuliano Grittini's work. For over twenty years, Grittini photographed the poet, sharing public and private moments and building a vast archive of images over time. But their dialogue did not remain confined to photography.
Alda's words gradually entered Giuliano's works. The poet's verses, manuscripts, and handwriting overlap with his portraits, color, and artistic interventions, creating a dialogue in which it is no longer possible to completely separate photography and poetry.
When poetry and image speak the same language.
The word becomes image.
The portrait becomes memory.
The poetry becomes matter.
This journey finds a particularly significant expression in the Visual Poetry project, presented in 2023 at the Galleria San Babila in Milan: ten works dedicated to ten unpublished poems by Alda Merini, in an encounter between poetic word and visual language.
